Tradishen Acupuncture Services

Tradishen Acupuncture Acupuncture and East Asian medicine have been in use for over 2,000 years. One of the foundations of East Asian medicine is the belief that each person, each living thing, has "Qi" (pronounced 'chee') - a life energy. Qi flows through the body in energy streams known as meridians, which are related to hundreds of points on the skin. Pain or illness can result when blockages occur in the meridians and the flow of Qi is inhibited.

Acupuncture is the strategic placement of ultra-thin (think a hair's width) needles in the acupuncture points that correspond to the patient's condition. The goal of an acupuncture appointment is to renew the healthy flow of Qi and to restore the body to balance.

Here at Tradishen, we specialize in a style of Japanese acupuncture called Japanese meridian therapy. This style emphasizes touch and palpation of the meridians to more exactly pick the placement of acupuncture points on each unique person. It also utilizes even thinner needles than more popular styles of acupuncture, allowing for a more comfortable experience appreciated by the more needle-sensitive population. Needles are often inserted much more shallow (approximately 1-2 mm in depth) or even placed against the skin with a technique called "contact needling”. For even more sensitive types, a small, blunt tool called a “tei shin” may be used in place of needles to stimulate points without the need to prick the skin. Additionally, more advanced forms of applying moxibustion (an external herbal treatment using the herb Mugwort and heat) can be used on acupuncture points to create more relief and relaxation.

Patients of Tradishen can expect a treatment consisting of evaluation of tongue, pulse and abdomen palpation, followed by acupuncture on the front side of body, then acupuncture on back side of the body, intertwined with moxibustion, therapeutic massage techniques or cupping. All practitioners are versed in different energy modalities to further calm your nervous system, hence balancing the mind, body and spirit.

Tradishen Acupuncture Facial RejuvenationAll new facial rejuvenation patients are required to book a First-time Facial Acupuncture consultation to properly educate you and evaluate your concerns. Don’t you worry, the consultation fee is applied to your next booked session! We also cover topics like prior botox, filler and surgical procedures; before and after care; what to avoid before your sessions; expected outcomes; and any other concerns you may have! This consultation may be done in office, over the phone or via telemedicine.

Facial rejuvenation includes cosmetic acupuncture and holistic microneedling, which utilize natural, non-toxic techniques to help rejuvenate the skin from the inside out. It improves the skin by brightening and tightening the skin, balancing skin tone and texture, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. In all sessions, acupuncture is also applied to the body for an overall therapeutic effect. Overall, facial rejuvenation is an alternative to other medical treatments involving injections and surgery. Although those alternatives can provide quick and quite dramatic results, we find that our services heal the skin from the inside out. When this happens, the integrity of the skin is maintained longer term, for a more natural, safe and deep shift of the skin.

We offer two cosmetic acupuncture services: the Energetic Facial Revive, a 60-minute session; and the Mind Body Beauty Energetic Facial Rejuve, a 90 minute session of pure pampering and skin rejuvenation. Each session includes a unique cocktail of acupuncture (both on the face and body), facial massage, cupping or gua sha (to sculpt to face and improve structures), LED light therapy (to move lymph, clear bacteria or rejuvenate skin), prescription of Chinese herbs and supplements (to improve the internal environment leading to skin aging or disorders), luxury therapeutic skin care and lifestyle recommendations. Our magical Mind Body Beauty Energetic Facial Rejuve allows for more application of our luxury skin care treatments, more thorough facial massage techniques to therapeutically improve skin structures (utilizing Dr. Monica’s signature massage methods and buccal techniques), and of course, more time to relax, decompress and release negative energy.

Holistic Microneedling is our favorite facial rejuvenation service to help resurface the skin and improve collagen and elastic production. This cosmetic procedure helps reduce scarring, wrinkles and discoloration by pricking the skin continuously with tiny sterilized needles. Prior to the procedure, numbing cream is applied while your practitioner performs body acupuncture to harmonize your internal health and lets you relax under rejuvenating LED lights. Additional relaxing techniques are applied, such as moxibustion, massage and hot towels to further pamper you during this service. We typically recommend 3 consecutive visits, 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. This regiment may be repeated based on the severity of the concern.

Typically, there are two types of facial rejuvenation clients: one seeking preventative care and one seeking therapeutic outcomes to address a visible concern. Facial rejuvenation services are like taking your face to the gym. You may need to receive treatment more regularly upfront to see results, then can set a maintenance plan to maintain results and prevent further aging signs. Those seeking preventative care are typically advised to seek treatment once every 4-6 weeks, meanwhile those seeking to address a concern typically require 6-12 sessions 1-2 times per week to address 1-2 concerns at a time. Results are also contingent on internal health imbalances, diet and lifestyle. Your practitioner will address this and make recommendations to improve outcomes.

Tradishen Acupuncture Cranial Sacral TherapyCranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. For those still apprehensive to acupuncture needles, this is a great alternative therapy that achieves amazing results.

By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms including: migraines, headaches, chronic pain, motor-coordination impairments, central nervous system disorders, orthopedic problems, traumatic brain injuries, concussions, Alzheimer’s, spinal cord injuries, scoliosis, conception, pregnancy, birth, pediatric challenges, learning differences, ADD, ADHD, autism, sensory processing, chronic fatigue, emotional difficulties, depression, stress and tension-related problems, fibromyalgia, connective-tissue disorders, TMJ, dental challenges, immune disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, post-surgical dysfunction, and sleep challenges.

Tradishen Acupuncture Kampo Herbal MedicineHere at Tradishen Japanese Acupuncture & Wellness we strongly encourage the use of herbs when imbalances present in the patients health, specifically utilizing the method of Kampo herbal medicine. Although acupuncture and moxibustion treatments can be incredibly effective to treat a patient’s health on its own, we find the combination can provide strong relief more quickly, more long-term and surprise our patients by supporting even the most chronic of conditions. We also know it’s not always reasonable in both a time and financial sense to visit our office 1-2 times per week. By providing additional support with herbs and supplements, patients can find more complete relief. Kampo medicine is incorporated into our other services. If you are interested in doing an herbal consultation and prescription alone, please contact our office directly at 619-780-7801.

Kampo medicines are traditional Japanese herbal medicines used in Japan for more than 1500 years. They were introduced from China and are now fully integrated into the modern health care system. Around 148 Kampo formulas are officially approved as prescription drugs and are covered by the national health insurance in Japan. These formulas are mostly derived from the ancient Chinese herbal text Shang Han Lun (On Cold Damage), written nearly two millennia ago

Although many herbal formulas may be similar to those prescribed by regular TCM herbal practitioners, Kampo practitioners emphasize an evaluation method involving palpating the abdomen to gather more objective findings in determining which formula is appropriate for the patient, further considering pulse, tongue and signs and symptoms. Additionally, formulas may be given in smaller dosages and courses.

Dr. Monica became a believer of Kampo medicine over ten years ago amidst suffering from debilitating panic attacks lasting several hours long daily, inhibiting her ability to sleep and do other daily tasks. She went to her new mentor, K.C. Conover, a well-known Japanese practitioner, and pleaded for help. Over a couple weeks, K.C. began palpating her abdomen and trying formulas slowly to see what she could tolerate. Upon taking the first dose of the third formula, Dr. Monica felt a strong wave of relief come across her mind and body. Her stressful thoughts settled, her body stopped shaking and over the next year, she found relief not only from anxiety, but also her menstrual cycle regulated, chronic pain further reduced and she felt healthier than she had in years. She hopes to continue to support others in finding deep relief by continuing to incorporate usage of Kampo at Tradishen.
